On 9th June 2023, Koobara along with Kurbingui held a luncheon to honour our Elders who work tirelessly in our community. This day was ‘for our Elders’, the National theme for NAIDOC 2023.
Across every generation, our Elders have played, and continue to play, an important role and hold a prominent place in our communities and families.
They are our cultural gate keepers and knowledge holders, trailblazers, nurturers, advocates, teachers, survivors, leaders, hard workers and our loved ones. They are there to guide our generations and pave the way for us to take the paths we can today.
We draw strength from their knowledge and experience.
It is through the struggles of our Elders that help us to move forward today, their strength has carried the survival of our people.
No gift could be big enough to truly reflect our appreciation for which each and every one of them contribute to us all and the generations of future leaders.
We took a lot of thought and considering choosing a meaningful gift, reflecting the strength and resilience of our Elders.
All of our Elders were recipients of a culturally inspired gift and a beautiful potted Peace Lilly that signifies peace, healing, hope and prosperity. Elders received a tea towel from Kullilla-Art and lucky door raffles on the day, and the winners took home fruit trays, self-care packs and warm blankets.
Together we shared a 2-course meal, many laughs and took many photos.
