Melissa Meehan is a proud Bigumbul and Mandandanji Woman with connections to South West Queensland. She was born and raised on the Northside of Brisbane. As a child, she attended Koobara Kindergarten and has fond memories of riding around on the Kindy bus and singing songs with Aunty Lydia.
After finishing high school, Melissa returned to the Koobara Family Resource Centre, where she worked as a Trainee Bookkeeper alongside Uncle Lewis, Aunty Annie, and Aunty Gloria. She reflects on her time with them as invaluable, considering Uncle Lewis, Aunty Annie, and Aunty Gloria as exceptional mentors who taught her important lessons and shared stories that have guided her throughout her career.
Melissa’s children were proud Koobara Kindy kids, continuing a special family tradition. Now, the next generation is following in their footsteps—one of her grandchildren has recently graduated, and others are already on the waitlist, excited to start their own learning journey at Koobara.
Melissa believes that the strong leadership and deep cultural connections at Koobara Kindergarten make it a truly special and grounding place for her family and the wider community. It’s a place where children grow, connect, and feel proud of who they are.
Melissa is recognised by the Koobara Kindy team for her strong organizational skills. She describes her current role as fast-paced, rewarding, and fulfilling. She is dedicated to ensuring the organisation runs smoothly, safely, and effectively.
